First aid training involves acquiring skills to respond to emergency situations, including CPR, wound treatment, and managing heat-related injuries. Courses cover basic levels, including subjects like aquatic or wilderness first aid course. These nationally recognised qualifications are delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Training also includes updates on current first aid procedures and protocols. Periodic re-certification is required to maintain competencies. The skills and knowledge gained from this training are invaluable for everyday scenarios, workplaces, and community settings.

Our Five Star Training Academy course consists of online theory completed prior to commencing the course in your own time and then face to face practical training.

The practical session can take up to 4 hours.

To obtain a first aid certificate in Australia, enrol in the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course through an accredited training provider. The course involves theoretical learning and practical assessments, covering CPR, injury management, and emergency response techniques. Some providers offer an online theory component followed by an in-person practical assessment. Once successfully completed, you'll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, valid for three years.

However, the CPR component is recommended for annual renewal.

The four principles of First Aid in Australia include:

• Preserve Life, which prioritises immediate life-saving actions;
• Prevent Illness, by minimising potential health risks and preventing disease transmission;
• Promote Recovery, where aid encourages healing and aims to improve the casualty's health status;
• Protect the Unconscious Casualty, ensuring that unconscious individuals are kept safe, their airway remains open, and any life-threatening conditions are promptly addressed.

These guiding principles form the foundation of effective first aid response, ensuring holistic care for
the casualty.

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is a specific lifesaving technique designed to restore heartbeat and breathing in emergencies such as cardiac arrest. It involves chest compressions and rescue breaths.

First Aid, on the other hand, is a broad term covering initial care given for any injury or illness, including burns, wounds, fractures, or heatstroke. It primarily aims to prevent conditions from worsening, promote recovery, and preserve life until professional medical help arrives.

CPR Refresher Course is actually a part of first aid, specifically for cardiac emergencies.
