Cash in Transit Course

Add the cash in transit endorsement to your Queensland security licence with the three units required by the Office of Fair Trading. Delivered by Five Star Training Academy, RTO No. 31996.

Don't hold a security licence yet? Cash in transit is an endorsement, not a starting point. New entrants begin with the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations.

Overview

Cash in transit is a separate licenced security function in Queensland. Officers move cash, valuables and sensitive items between banks, retailers, venues and secure facilities — work that carries a different risk profile to general guarding, and that the Office of Fair Trading licences separately.

If you already hold your security licence and want to move into cash in transit, you do not need to complete another full qualification. You need three specific units of competency, and Five Star Training Academy delivers all three.

It is one of the clearest ways to increase your earning capacity in the Queensland security industry without starting again.

Cash in Transit Units

To apply for a cash in transit officer licence in Queensland, the Office of Fair Trading requires you to have completed all modules of a CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, plus three elective units from CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations. Our training delivers those three units:

CPPSEC3118 (Inspect and test cash-in-transit security equipment and rectify faults) covers the equipment cash in transit work depends on — secure containers, vehicle systems, alarms and communications. You learn to check equipment before a run, identify faults, carry out permitted rectification and escalate anything outside your authority, so a fault is found in the depot rather than on the street.

CPPSEC3119 (Implement cash-in-transit security procedures) is the operational core of the role: route and risk planning, chain of custody, documentation, communication protocols, and the procedures that apply when something does not go to plan. It covers working to a client's requirements while meeting your obligations under the Security Providers Act 1993.

CPPSEC3120 (Load and unload cash-in-transit in secured and unsecured environments) is the practical unit. Collection and delivery points are where cash in transit officers are most exposed, and this unit covers approach and withdrawal, situational awareness, control of the pavement interval, and the difference between a secured facility and an open retail frontage.

Certificate

On successful completion, students receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the three units of competency — the training component the Office of Fair Trading requires for a cash in transit officer licence.

Issuing the licence itself is a matter for the Office of Fair Trading. You will also need to be 18 or older, pass a criminal history check and have your fingerprints taken by police. A cash in transit officer holds a Queensland security provider class 1 licence, which does not authorise carrying a firearm, handcuffs or a baton.

FAQ's

What training do I need to become a cash in transit officer in Queensland?

The Office of Fair Trading requires all modules of a CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, plus three elective units from CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations: CPPSEC3118 Inspect and test cash-in-transit security equipment and rectify faults, CPPSEC3119 Implement cash-in-transit security procedures, and CPPSEC3120 Load and unload cash-in-transit in secured and unsecured environments. Five Star Training Academy delivers all three units.

Do I need my security licence before I can do this course?

Yes. Cash in transit is an endorsement on an existing Queensland security licence, not an entry-level qualification. If you are starting out, begin with the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, then add cash in transit once you are licenced.

Do I need the full Certificate III in Security Operations?

No. Only the three cash in transit elective units are required. The full CPP31318 Certificate III is a separate qualification and is not a requirement for the licence.

Can a cash in transit officer carry a firearm?

Not under the cash in transit licence itself. A Queensland security provider class 1 licence does not authorise carrying a firearm, handcuffs or a baton. Any weapons authorisation is a separate matter, and the Office of Fair Trading publishes the current requirements.

How much does the cash in transit course cost?

$300 for the three units. Licence application fees are payable separately to the Office of Fair Trading.

Do I need to do refresher training?

Queensland security licences require revalidation every three years to stay current. See our Crowd Control Refresher Course for tri-annual revalidation training.
